Cargo Insurance
Cargo is carried by many modes of transport, usually by more than one in any one voyage. The mode of contract will include sendings by air, sea, water or road. Everything we see around us, from raw materials to finished products, foodstuffs, minerals, steel, rubber, will at some time have been cargo.
Cargo is often forgotten or ignored which means that the cargo owner assumes the risk. Another reason that it is not arranged is that the importer or the exporters believe that the cargo carrier's contractual conditions will compensate them for any loss or damage. Cargo insurance is normally arranged by a supplier or buyer overseas or placed by a freight forwarder on behalf of the exporter.
Who needs this Insurance?
Any company that imports, or exports goods. We are able to provide cover for many types of cargo. Each type of cargo has different underwriting considerations and each case submitted to us will be underwritten individually.
The following Extensions of cover are easily provided under a Cargo Policy:

- Temporary storage outside of ordinary transit
- Traveller's samples
- Engineer's tools
- Exhibitions in UK and Overseas
- Inter-Factory movements
Freight Liability
We provide insurance protection for carriers and bailees such as hauliers, warehouse-keepers, couriers and freight forwarders.
Liability under freight liability arises through statute, contract or common law. Conditions of carriage set out the obligation between carrier or bailee and the customer and these should be included into the contract of carriage. Without these specified conditions a carrier is bound by common law. Some conditions of carriage are imposed by statute because of the nature of the goods and/or the method transport.
